The driver in the counterflow incident along Skyway over the weekend was reportedly drunk-driving and has now had his license permanently revoked, announced the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Jake Nazareno, the driver in question, appeared before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to offer an explanation for his conduct. It was revealed that he was drunk when caught counterflowing at the Skyway.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon admonished Nazareno, emphasizing that he had jeopardized the lives of other motorists.

“Hindi pwede ‘to. Lasing ka na nga, tapos nag-counterflow ka pa sa Skyway, at muntik ka pang makapatay dahil sa ginawa mo,” he said.

From this point forward, Nazareno will be unable to drive. Moreover, he will face Anti-Drunk Driving and Reckless Driving charges.

The revocation of Nazareno’s license aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to hold irresponsible and reckless drivers accountable to ensure road safety.

CCTV footage from August 9, at around 3:32 a.m., showed Nazareno running counter the traffic flow along Skyway in Metro Manila.
