DOJ indicts 3 Laguna cops for kidnapping, robbery of missing e-sabong exec

Three members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be charged for kidnapping and robbing an e-sabong (online cockfighting) master agent, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Monday, Dec. 19.

In a press statement, the DOJ said cases would be filed against Police Staff Sargeant Daryl Paghangaan, Pat. Roy Navarrete, and Pat. Rigel Broasas for kidnapping and robbing e-sabong agent named Ricardo Lasco.

The PNP Criminal Investigation and Detention Group (PNP-CIDG) identified the three police officers following complaints filed by Lasco's family.

In the complaint, Princess Montanez, Gilda Montanez, Honey Lyn Sason y Montanez, and Elain Montanez narrated that the three cops disguised themselves as operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and entered their house premises in San Pablo City, Laguna.

The armed men then arrested Lasco in relation to the crime of large-scale estafa filed against him.

"They took several valuables owned by them while they were being held in the living room," the DOJ said.

The said complaint was first dismissed by San Pablo’s Office of the City Prosecutor due to a lack of evidence.

"Respondents denied the allegations made against them. They claim that they were in different places during the date and time of the commission of the alleged crimes,” the justice department said.

Others who were also linked in the said cases are Master Sgt. Michael Claveria, Lt. Henry Sasaluya, and several "John Does." But the complaints against them got dismissed due to lack of probable cause.
