The number of individuals who sustained injuries related to fireworks during the New Year celebration has jumped to 211 from 61, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday, Jan. 2.
In its latest fireworks-related injury surveillance report, the DOH said this is 16 percent higher as compared to 182 cases reported in 2021.
Of the 211, 41 individuals suffered injuries due to Kwitis, 27 due to Boga, 19 due to 5-star, 12 due to fountain, and 12 others sustained injuries due to unknown firecrackers.
The health department said no stray bullet injuries and fireworks injections were reported, so far.
Of the total number of cases, 129 injuries occurred on the street while 94 injuries occurred at home.
At least 79 percent of the victims were males aged 11 months to 80 years old.
Most of the victims were injured in the hands (76 cases) and eyes (59 cases), the DOH said.
The National Capital Region (NCR) had the highest number of reported fireworks-related injuries with 102 cases or 48 percent in total, followed by Western Visayas with 25 cases or 12 percent.
Meanwhile, Mimaropa and Davao had the lowest with only one case reported each.
