At least 122 citizens had been reported sick after being exposed to the oil spill from the capsized oil tanker in Oriental Mindoro, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Tuesday.

In a press briefing, DOH officer-in-charge (OIC) Maria Rosario Vergeire said the numbers jumped from 79 to 122 affected individuals.

Of the 122, she said most have experienced cough, cold, and headaches.

"Marami din nahihilo, labing-anim. Meron din ang mga may sumakit ang tyan," Vergeire added.

Meanwhile, 10 individuals experienced difficulty in breathing and seven had skin problems.

But the DOH OIC noted that all reported individuals have fully recovered.

"Isa lang napasugod [sa hospital] pero after one day, nailabas na natin," she said.

Vergeire said the health department is managing to prevent any other symptoms to happen.

The" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> latest data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as of March 15 showed that at least 145,223 individuals or 31,651 families in 127 barangays in Oriental Mindoro were affected by the oil spill.

The oil tanker MT Princess Empress which carried 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil submerged last February 28 due to engine overheating.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) earlier reported that the oil spill has reached Caluya, Antique, and it has spread as far as Taytay in Palawan.
