Northern Samar recorded an increase in cases of leptospirosis following the massive floods that hit the province last November.
As per reports, the cases of leptospirosis rose from eight in the first week of December to 22 in the second week of the month.
Currently, the Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas has yet to report a single death due to leptospirosis.
DOH Eastern Visayas Regional Information Officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago credited the lack of fatalities to the antibiotics prepositioned by DOH in Northern Samar as part of the post-disaster response.
