The introduction of a new policy by PhilHealth’s BenCom or Benefits Committee may rescind the single period confinement rule.

Admissions and re-admissions necessitated by the same ailment or procedure and within 90 calendar days only warrants one case rate benefit under the single period confinement rule.

The All Case Rates Policy No. 2 states that PhilHealth will not cover succeeding admissions not apart from the initial one by three months. Inpatient care will only be once again funded by the corporation when 90 days have passed from the date of admission.

Department of Health (DOH) and Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) Chair Teodoro Herbosa said the new policy will be up for recommendation come Friday, to be presented before the board en banc.

The period confinement rule denied 26,750 claimants, among whom were cases of community-acquired pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis, urinary tract infection (UTI), and chronic kidney disease.

Herbosa believed policies concerning health benefits must lower Filipinos’ expenses.
