The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday cautioned the public against a scammer impersonating Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and soliciting donations.
The fraudster, using Remulla’s name and likeness, would reach out to public officials, requesting financial assistance supposedly for a foundation affected by a fire that struck Bocaue, Bulacan.
“The Secretary does not solicit financial assistance,” the agency clarified.
The DILG advised officials, as well as the public, to refrain from entertaining these requests and to report them to authorities immediately. It is presently working with law enforcement to address the issue and find and penalize those involved in the sham.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) earlier issued a similar advisory regarding a fraudulent email address posing as Vice President Sara Duterte.
