The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is set on reinforcing its role in maintaining peace and order across the country.
Speaking on a DZRH program, Allysa Marie Mendoza Briones, Head of the Local Government Relations Division (LGRD) and Project Manager of the Strengthening Peace and Order Council Project Management Office (SPOC-PMO), highlighted DILG’s key initiatives and its coordination with local governments.
"Isa sa mga misyon ng DILG ay ang pagpapatupad ng kaayusan sa ating mga komunidad, sa ating mga lokal na pamahalaan," Briones shared.
She emphasized the importance of programs like the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP), Preventing Violent Extremism initiatives, and the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy in helping local communities maintain order
"Ang DILG rin po ay nagsisilbing mga secretariat sa ating mga peace and order councils mula sa mga munisipyo, syudad, lalawigan, rehiyon, at maging sa national level."
The DILG has also developed an online system, the Peace and Order and Public Safety Plan Policy Compliance Monitoring System (POPSPPCMS), which helps local Peace and Order Councils (POCs) report on their accomplishments and projects.
"Mayroong dinevelop ang DILG na isang online system... para magabayan sila sa tamang pag-implement ng kanilang mga programa," Briones explained.
General Santos City’s Sariya Atas Bichara Recognized in Galing Pook Awards
General Santos City was recently honored in the 2023 Galing Pook Awards for its innovative conflict resolution program, the Sariya Atas Bichara.
This ordinance, co-authored by Councilor Atty. Dominador "Jun" Lagare Jr. and Vice Mayor Rosalie Tatinunez, provides a tailored mechanism for resolving conflicts within the Muslim community.
"It is a specialized conflict resolution mechanism designed for Muslims," Lagare stated. The program integrates both formal and informal methods, ensuring it adheres to Islamic laws while addressing personal disputes like marriage or child custody.
"Nagiging isang panel na lang... sila sila mismo nag-uusap at kanilang ineevaluate yung problema."
This unique approach demonstrates how local governments can adapt to the specific needs of their communities, ensuring justice and peace are maintained at all levels.
