The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) appealed to the public for material donations on the oil slick that occurred on Thursday, involving the capsized MT Terra Nova.
In a statement, the DILG noted that hay, hair, and coconut husks are needed in the creation of oil booms to prevent the oil from reaching other nearby areas. It said that the containment and cleanup operations would use the oil booms to contain the oil and skimmers from the water. Chemical dispersants would help in quickening the process of cleaning up the polluted waters.
The government agency said that every contribution is vital, as it will help resolve the crisis at hand.
The oil has recently reached the shorelines of Cavite, affecting several barangays, and is forecasted to affect Metro Manila by July 30.
Donators are encouraged to coordinate with their respective City or Municipal Environmental Resources Offices for more details.
