The University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI) has reported that the oil slick from the sunken Motor Tanker (MT) Terranova, which sank off Limay, Bataan, is projected to reach Metro Manila by Tuesday, July 30.

The forecast is based on an oil trajectory model that incorporates surface velocity data from Global Ocean Physics Analysis and Forecast, as well as surface wind information from the National Center for Environmental Prediction Global Forecast System.

The MT Terranova capsized and sank on Thursday, July 25, while carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil.

Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has reported that the oil slick has already impacted several coastal barangays in Cavite, including those in Ternate, Maragondon, Naic, and parts of Tanza.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has confirmed that nine tank valves were leaking but has since sealed them.

PCG personnel are actively monitoring the situation to manage the ongoing impact.
