DepEd says no hacking in regional offices amid data breach report
by Christhel Cuazon16 February 2024

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said there was no hacking in its regional offices despite a reported data breach earlier this week.

On Wednesday, DepEd said they coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on the reports of a data breach in one of its regional offices.

In a radio interview, DepEd deputy spokesperson Asec. Francis Bringas said their regional offices denied any incidents of hacking on their websites. He noted that they are now looking into the school and division levels.

A circulating post online revealed that at least 750 gigabytes of data, which allegedly includes banking information of teachers and other students' information, have been accumulated from a certain education department in the Philippines.

The DICT, meanwhile, said it recently blocked cyberattacks from “within China” on the websites and official pages of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
