The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday said it is still verifying reports of possible data breach from one of its regional offices.
"No report as of the moment as verification is ongoing. We will provide information as soon as we get them from our Regional and Division Information Officers," DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa told in a message to reporters.
"We have instructed the field offices to run diagnostics and verify if there was indeed a hack," he added.
Poa said they have already coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on the matter.
A circulation post online revealed that at least 750 gigabytes of data, which allegedly includes banking information of teachers and other students' information, have been accumulated from a certain education department in the Philippines.
DepEd has yet to disclose the exact location of the regional office where the possible hacking took place.
Meanwhile, DICT spokesperson Assistant Secretary Aboy Paraiso said that they are also still verifying the report.
“[B]ut we can say that we isolated our investigation to a regional office of the DepEd. We will update you within the day if this report is verified and its possible extent,” he told reporters in a Viber message.“Such remarks are highly irresponsible,” he said.
