Dengue outbreaks have been steadily rising across the nation since the first week of April, with a total of 85,692 cases reported as of July 22, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.
According to DOH, 9,916 dengue cases were recorded from June 25 to July 8 alone, which was 7% higher compared to the cases logged two weeks prior.
Region IV-B MIMAROPA had the highest incidence of dengue cases, with 51 cases per 100,000 people as per DOH record.
Meanwhile, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) had 34 cases per 100,000 people. It was followed by the Davao Region, which had 25 cases per 100,000 people, the Zamboanga Peninsula, which had 24 cases per 100,000 people, and Soccsksargen, which had 23 cases per 100,000 people.
The DOH, however, highlighted that the 106,517 dengue cases registered over the same period in 2022 were 19% lower than the 85,692 dengue cases reported countrywide from January 1 to July 22.
The department added that the recent rise in dengue cases was "expected due to the rainy season."
“The agency is also continuously monitoring areas that are prone to flooding and were hit by the recent typhoon,” the Health Department said.
The DOH urged people to clear out any areas or containers that can collect unnecessary stagnant water, which can serve as mosquito breeding grounds.
