When asked whether Malacañang had any involvement in the impeachment complaint, Dela Rosa did not confirm any direct influence. This comes despite reports that President Marcos’ son, Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos, was among the first to sign the complaint.
Dela Rosa noted that endorsing an impeachment complaint is part of a congressman’s duties.
He also pointed out that while President Marcos had previously stated his opposition to the impeachment, it does not necessarily mean that his son, as a congressman, must follow his stance.
Dela Rosa, who is known to have close ties with Vice President Duterte, assured that he would strive to remain apolitical in matters concerning the impeachment.
A total of 215 congressmen signed the impeachment complaint, exceeding the minimum requirement of 102 signatures or one-third of the House needed before it can be submitted to the Senate for trial.
