Former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo was laid to rest in Siaton town in Negros Oriental, his hometown on Thursday, March 16.
Palace earlier declared Thursday sa special non-working holiday in Negros Oriental to allow citizens to "grieve and honor the memory" of the late Degamo and other victims in the assassination last March 4.
At the funeral, thousands of people joined Pamplona Mayor Janice, the wife of the former governor, and demanded justice for Degamo and the victims.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) fired a 21-gun salute in honor of Degamo.
On March 4, Degamo was shot inside his residential compound in Barangay San Isidro, Pamplona, Negros Oriental. His family confirmed his passing at around 11:44 am the same day.
Nine other civilians were slain during the shootout.
As of writing, four suspects were arrested and are under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Manila. They are facing three counts of murder and frustrated murder.
Five more suspects including their leader are still at large.
