The cheers and anticipation still reigned as Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao stepped back into the ring—not just to defend a title, but to be living proof that age is just a number.

At 46, the Filipino boxing champ still had the moves, taking on reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 20 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The highly anticipated bout ended in a majority draw, with one judge scoring it 115–113 in favor of Barrios, and the other two scoring it 114–114. But for the crowd who waited for this comeback fight, Pacquiao never lost his fire.

His quick punches and fast footwork weren’t just about past fights and training—it was about endurance, faith, and the trust of fans that fuel his drive to go beyond what’s expected of him.

From his entrance to the first ring of the bell, Pacquiao showed energy and enthusiasm. He immediately displayed sharp combinations in the early rounds, briefly outboxing Barrios. Close exchanges followed in the later rounds, as Barrios’ defense and stance held strong against Pacquiao’s attacks.

More than the decision: A draw is a statement

In his 16th fight at the MGM Grand, the official result sparked mixed emotions—especially among Filipino fans who believed Pacquiao had done enough to win.

Barrios, for one, couldn’t believe how strong Pacquiao remained despite his age.

“It’s crazy. His stamina, he could still crack. He’s still strong as hell.. I was trying to make him feel old. But he still has some good legs,” Barrios admitted after the fight.

On the other hand, Pacquiao showed grace and respect in reacting to the result, praising his opponent.

“It was a close fight. My opponent was very tough. Barrios is a wonderful fighter,” the boxing champ said.

For him, the bout was close—and he held onto hope that he had done enough to win.
