Congressman Cheeno Almario refuted Alice Guo's claims about her true nationality after a documentary labeled her as a spy, based on the testimony of a jailed Chinese asset.
During the seventh Quad-Committee hearing on Friday, September 27, Guo reacted strongly to a news network's documentary on tycoon She Zhijiang, who is currently imprisoned for several crimes related to human trafficking and scams.
Alice Guo According to the Dossier
He claims that his immense knowledge about Chinese state security led to his arrest. The self-confessed asset had the same business operations as POGOs, linked to scams, human trafficking, and forced labor.
Its striking similarities alarmed the House panel, as the Philippines was not the only country with the same case. A dossier with encrypted data revealed that Alice Guo was born in the province of Fujian, China.
Although contradicting her past statements, the documents showed her birth certificate; Guo Hua Ping with Chinese nationality, listing her mother as Lin Wen Yi, originally from Fujian.
Additionally, the network staff found that the address provided led to the local office of the Chinese Communist Party. Residents of the area recognized Guo as Lin Wen Yi’s daughter who left the country by the end of 2002.
"There is a dossier confirming that there are Chinese spies all over, at least in this case Myanmar, but here also in the Philippines; But undoubtedly shows Guo Hua Ping in the picture, where she was born, even her mother, Lin Wen Yi," Congressman Almario stressed.
Connections and Citizenship
Almario emphasized the coincidence on the information presented from a completely unrelated party. He expressed frustration on how Guo kept denying her real identity, citing that the documentary speaks volumes.
According to Almario, national security is at stake, considering how interconnected each personality is. She Zhijiang claimed that Guo called him to ask for campaign funds when she was running for mayor.
Guo vehemently denied the claims, and insisted that she is not a spy, but a Filipino citizen.
"Unfair siya para sa akin. Hindi ko siya kilala at never ako humingi ng campaign fund entirely. Never ako humingi ng campaign fund during my campaign period," she expressed.
"Hindi po ako spy. Totally hindi ako spy. Hindi ako yung nasa picture, at hindi rin ako yung sinasabi niya," she added.
During the interpellation, Quad-Comm Chairperson Ace Barbers asked Guo how she'll convince the Filipino people that she is not a spy or involved in POGOs.
Guo answered stating that government agencies can confirm her citizenship. She added that she plans to discuss legal action against the network with her lawyer.
