The petition for bail of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping, was denied by a Pasig court.
In a resolution by the Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 167, the court cited strong evidence against Guo and her co-accused in connection with the qualified human trafficking charges they are facing.
“The Petitions for Bail filed by accused Alice Leal Guo, Rita Sapnu Yturralde, Rowena Gonzales Evangelista, Thelma Barrogo Laranan, Merlie Joy Manalo Castro, Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon, and Jaimielyn Santos Cruz are denied considering that the evidence presented by the prosecution against them during the ball hearing is strong,” the decision read.
Following the court's decision, Guo will remain detained at the Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory.
The charges against Guo and her alleged cohorts are related to the raid on a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Bamban, where both Filipinos and foreigners were rescued.
In September, Guo pleaded not guilty to the qualified human trafficking charges lodged against her.
In addition to the qualified human trafficking case, Guo is also facing graft charges at the Valenzuela RTC, along with tax evasion and money laundering cases.
