Presidential aspirant Leody De Guzman on Wednesday assured the public that his 36 years of experience in running an organization is enough to become the president of the Philippines.
"Tingin ko sapat-sapat 'yung aking 36 years na karanasan sa pagpapatakbo ng organisasyon mula sa pagiging organizer, pagtatayo ng mga samahan, pagpapatakbo ng mga alyansa," he said during the Bakit Ikaw: The Presidential Job Interview.
(I think my 36 years of experience in running an organization, from being an organizer, establishing groups, running alliances, is enough.)
According to De Guzman, experience should only be the second qualification for the presidency, and intentions should come first.
"Gusto ko lang sabihin na 'yung paghahanap ng experience, tingin ko ay mas sekondaryo na bagay sa pamumuno," he said.
(I just want to say that for me, looking for experience is only secondary when it comes to leadership.)
"Ang tingin ko ay 'yung intensyon na paglingkuran 'yung mga manggagawa, 'yung mga masang Pilipino, o 'yung bayan kesa sarili tingin ko mas importante 'yun," he added.
(I think the intention to serve workers, the masses, or the country over one’s self is much more important.)
De Guzman said this is not to undermine experience when it comes to governing a nation, but for him, his 36 years of running an organization is enough.
"Bagamat hindi ko inaalis na importante rin yung experience, pero ang tingin ko, 'yung 36 years na experience ko sa pagpapandar ng mga organisasyon ay sapat-sapat 'yun."
(While I am not removing the importance of experience, I think my 36 years of experience in running an organization is enough.)
