The cracks discovered at Boni and Ayala stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line-3 (MRT-3) will not pose any danger, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured on Thursday after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake jolted Calatagan, Batangas on Thursday morning.
“[DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railway and officer-in-charge Jorjette] Aquino said the cracks discovered in Boni Station and Ayala Station will not cause any danger to the public and the MRT-3 operations,” DOTr said in a statement.
The transportation department said Aquino has directed the personnel of the MRT-3 operations, maintenance, and engineering team as well as the Oriental Consultants Global (OCG) and the MRT-3's consultant to conduct an in-depth inspection.
No damage was detected in all MRT-3 stations, hence “there is no cause for alarm”, it said.
The MRT-3 management halted its operations following the earthquake, and operations resumed at around 11 AM. No passengers were reportedly hurt.
Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 and Line 2 and Philippine National Railways (PNR) also resumed operations after a stop for safety was enforced.
