

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released its revised calendar of activities for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) this coming December despite lawmakers have been pushing for its postponement.
In an advisory issued on Thursday, Sept. 22, the filing of Certificates for Candidacy (COC) for aspiring candidates was adjusted to Oct. 22-29, this year, except 23 which falls on Sunday.
While the date of the election period and gun ban period is now scheduled from Nov. 6 to Dec. 20.
The date for the campaign period and election day remained its original schedule as stated under Comelec Resolution No. 1831 dated Aug. 10.
The campaign period will still start from Nov. 25 to Dec. 3, and the election day is scheduled on Dec. 5 from 7 am to 3 pm.
Comelec Commissioner George Garcia earlier said that the poll body would continue its election preparations until the measure seeking for postponment would be enacted into law.
The bill seeking the deferment of the BSKE has recently passed the third and final reading in the House of Representatives.
About 264 lawmakers voted in favor of House Bill No. 4673 or An Act Postponing the 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election.
If enacted into law, barangay and SK elections will be moved from Dec. 5, 2022, to Dec. 4, 2023.
Alongside, the next synchronized barangay and SK elections shall be held on the first Monday of December 2026, and every after three years.
