The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has received an unmodified opinion in the Annual Audit Report of the Commission on Audit (COA), Chairman George Erwin Garcia announced on Wednesday, July 4.
Unmodified opinions provide a reasonable level of assurance from the auditor that the financial statements present a true and fair reflection of an entity's results for the period reported.
In a statement, Garcia said he is "happy" that COMELEC achieved a milestone after 84 years.
"The COA found that this Commission's financial statements 'present fairly, in all materials respects, the financial position of the Commission on Elections as of December 31, 2023' in compliance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards," said Garcia.
The election chairman thanked all involved individuals, offices, and departments for their hard work as the Commission's journey "has been steep and fraught with obstacles".
Meanwhile, Garcia congratulated the COMELEC and reminded them to be committed to public service.
