Coldplay frontman Chris Martin fixed a concert-goer’s mistake by dedicating an improvised song to him.
When you try your best but don’t succeed, it can get embarrassing, especially when you’re picked out from a sea of about 650 people. During a concert for the band’s newly-released “Moon Music” album, a fan yelled out a song request which didn’t quite belong in Coldplay’s catalog.
The fan called out, “Fix It!” by which he may have meant the widely known “Fix You” that had been among the Billboard 100 hits in 2005.
Martin gently chided the fan initially. After performing “Yellow,” he decided to apologize and made up a song on the spot, based on the erroneous title.
“Here is a song called ‘Fix It,’ specifically just for that guy,” the bandleader sang, “ It’s okay if you come to a concert to call out the name of a song / (But) I’d much prefer you don’t get the name of the song wrong / Oh, fix it, let’s fix it / It was broken a long time ago / Yes, fix it, a famous song called ‘Fix It’ / That before today even I didn’t know.”
Martin engaged his audience enthusiastically. He pointed to some people and stuck his tongue out for pictures.
Coldplay has been around since 1997, and has produced a string of smash hits like “Viva La Vida,” “A Sky Full of Stars,” and “Hymn for the Weekend.” “Moon Music” is their tenth album; the band has announced their retirement after the twelfth.
