The Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested four Chinese nationals after discovering P75 million worth of counterfeit footwear in three warehouses in Meycauayan City, Bulacan.
In an operation conducted by CIDG Regional Field Unit 3 and CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit operatives, in coordination with local police, search warrants were served in warehouses on February 26.
CIDG Director PMGen. Nicolas Torre III revealed that authorities confiscated a vast number of counterfeit Crocs footwear, amounting to P75,390,000.00, from three warehouses.
A breakdown of the total figures reveals P29,690,000.00 in the first warehouse, P27,700,000.00 in the second, and P18,000,000.00 in the third.
Furthermore, authorities also seized additional evidence in the simultaneous raids, including receipts, computer units, a CCTV DVR, and a web mill printer, all of which were used in their illegal activities.
Torre highlighted that it is the government's responsibility to safeguard the rights of inventors, scientists, and Filipino entrepreneurs against infringements on their intellectual property.
He also stated that the CDG will ensure the continued enforcement of the law against all violators, whether they are locals or foreigners. He also urged the public to report any illegal activities, including counterfeit goods, to safeguard the welfare of the people.
The arrested suspects are currently facing charges of violation under Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) in relation to Section 170 of R.A. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) for the unauthorized use of a registered trademark or a similar mark, which could potentially deceive consumers.
