Diokno is the son of the late Senator Jose W. Diokno, known as the Father of Human Rights in the Philippines. He first announced his senatorial bid on September 15.
He first joined the senatorial elections in 2019, under the opposition's senatorial slate Otso Diresto, but failed to secure a seat at that time.
