The chief of staff of presidential aspirant Mayor Isko Moreno on Wednesday clarified the reason behind his resignation from the latter's team ahead of the filing of the certificate of candidacy.
In a statement, Cesar Chavez denied earlier reports that "infighting" with his former boss' campaign team prompted his resignation.
"No infighting," Chavez told Manila beat reporters on Wednesday.
According to Chavez, his former media company, Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), offered him a position in March, which he accepted. He informed Moreno then and submitted his resignation as chief of staff last August 30. The resignation became effective on September 30.
"Salamat Yorme sa pag-unawa, at pagkatataon makapagtrabaho sa Maynila. Napakaraming magagaling at matitino sa city hall. Maraming salamat sa inyo," he said.
Earlier, Moreno revealed that Chavez is dealing with some health issues and needs to attend to his family
"Nagkaroon siya ng [He has some] health reasons. He has to attend to his family," the mayor said.
"Ayoko nag-iinterfere kapag pamilya na. Kaya ka nga naghahanap-buhay para sa pamilya mo," he said.
[I don't want to interfere when it comes to family. We work because of our families.]
Moreno’s campaign manager Lito Banayo also denied reports that the resignation of Chavez was due to tension between the mayor's long-time team and his newly formed campaign team.
