

The local government of Cebu has declared the province under a State of calamity on Wednesday, October 1.
“The provincial government, through Governor Pamela Baricuatro's Executive Order No. 57 and a resolution passed by the Provincial Board this morning, has placed the Province of Cebu under a state of calamity,” the Cebu local government unit (LGU) said in a post.
On Tuesday evening, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Bogo City, Cebu, and was felt in nearby areas, leaving extensive damage in its wake.
As of 10 a.m., the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported 64 deaths—30 in Bogo, 22 in San Remigio, 10 in Medellin, one in Tabuelan, and one in Sogod.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) traced the quake to offshore faults northeast of Cebu Island, with its epicenter located about 19 kilometers north and 70 kilometers east of Bogo City.
