A Catholic priest has been stripped of his administrative duties for allowing Sabrina Carpenter to shoot her “Feather” music video inside a church, according to the Diocese of Brooklyn.
Carpenter’s video shows scenes, where she sings on the altar in a tulle black dress with the tabernacle, ornate with candles with coffins flanked on each side. These were shot at the historic 19th-century Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn.
The Diocese of Brooklyn flagged the parish’s priest, Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, days after the music video aired for not following the “diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script,” Brooklyn Bishop Robert Brennan’s statement to the Catholic News Agency (CNA) read.
Brennan also announced that he was “appalled” at what was filmed inside the church and “is taking this matter seriously and will be looking into it further.”
In a New York Times report on Saturday, Nov. 25, , Brennan stripped of Gigantiello of his administrative duties in the parish.
Gigantiello told the New York Times that he had been told about a funeral scene in the music video but claimed that the final edit was “not what was initially presented to me.”
