A man was spotted hanging onto a coconut tree to keep from being swept away by floodwaters in Camarines Sur.

On Wednesday, a Sto. Domingo, Nabua resident was trapped in the middle of heavy flooding and clung to a tree for safety. Riding a boat, his family eventually came to his rescue.

Severe Tropical Storm Kristine brought fierce winds and torrential downpours to a number of areas in the Bicol Region, resulting in widespread flooding and landslides.

Despite having more than 17,000 individuals, or 5,900 families, evacuated, rescuers have been struggling with an outpouring of calls for immediate rescue from locals stranded by flash floods.
