The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) placed 42 commercial operating airports on high alert for the expected influx of passengers this coming holiday season.
In anticipation of the surge in passenger traffic, CAAP said that it has coordinated with airline operators and concerned government agencies including the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) and the Philippine National Police Aviation Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) to boost personnel.
The agency also reminded travelers to avoid bringing prohibited items to the airport and to stow all belongings in one's carry-on baggage for a faster process at the screening checkpoints.
To ensure safe, reliable, and convenient airport operations for returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), civilians, and tourist travels, CAAP observed added security measures and deployment of service and security personnel with commercial flights.
As travel bans were imposed in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CAAP reported that it has seen trends of curbed demand for tourism this year.
According to pre-pandemic historical data, around 7% to 10% estimated increase in the number of passengers is expected annually and with the current easing of travel restrictions, CAAP is positively preparing for an influx in the demand for travel.
