King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, according to Buckingham Palace on Monday, February 5.

In a statement, the palace said a separate issue of health concern was noticed after his recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, with following diagnostic tests revealing a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,” the Buckingham Palace said, adding that the King would continue taking on business and official paperwork as usual.

The palace did not specify the stage when the cancer was found but noted the King’s gratitude toward his medical team for the swift intervention.

“He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” the Buckingham Palace added.

The palace earlier announced that King Charles needed treatment for an enlarged prostate, stating that it would be a “corrective procedure.”
