Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan has been named in a class suit set to be filed by the Lawyers for Commuters’ Safety and Protection (LCSP) in connection with the faulty and “ghost” or fictitious flood control projects.
Bonoan’s resignation does not save him from accountability, LCSP founder Atty. Ariel Inton said, as reported by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.
At the same time, the group of lawyers called on other DPWH officials involved in corruption to hand in their courtesy resignations, to give way to freshly-appointed DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon’s leadership.
Their resignations would simplify the probe into corruption within the agency, the group added.
The LCSP leaves the filing of criminal charges against those involved in the anomalous projects to the investigators.
The class suit champions justice for the hardship and harm inflicted by widespread flooding on motorists and commuters alike due to rampant corruption, according to the LCSP.
Manuel Bonoan’s resignation took effect today, September 1. Meanwhile, Dizon took his oath as the new DPWH chief this morning.
