The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday reiterated its commitment to support the Senate’s ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding the Discaya family’s ownership of multiple luxury vehicles.

In a statement, the BOC said it is closely monitoring the proceedings of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Senator Rodante Marcoleta, which is also looking into questionable flood control projects that raised related issues on the Discayas’ car ownership.

“Any irregularity in the importation of luxury vehicles, such as misdeclaration or non-payment of duties and taxes, will be subject to enforcement actions under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA),” the bureau said.

The agency confirmed that a search warrant has been issued against former Pasig City mayoralty candidate Sarah Discaya, who admitted during a Senate hearing that her family owns 28 luxury vehicles.

BOC Chief of Staff Atty. Jek Casipit further revealed that 12 of the Discaya family’s cars have no existing records with the bureau, suggesting possible violations of customs laws.

While officials declined to disclose further details, citing the ongoing investigation, the BOC assured the public it will enforce the law with “fairness, transparency, and due process,” in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to intensify the campaign against smuggling.
