Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon carried out a surprise early morning inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Friday, May 9.

According to a press release, the two officials personally checked the arrival area and immigration counters, including the use of electronic gates or e-gates. They found that more e-gates are urgently needed to handle the growing number of international travelers.

Viado said the BI is working to acquire over 100 additional e-gates for major international airports in the country.

"E-gates are now the international standard. They are crucial to providing efficient and secure immigration processing, especially in high-traffic terminals like NAIA,” Viado said," Viado said.

"We thank Secretary Dizon and the Department of Transportation for their continuous support in the improvement of our systems so we can provide better service to the public," he addded.

Viado added that more surprise inspections will be conducted to continuously monitor and enhance airport operations.

The initiative supports the Bagong Pilipinas campaign, which aims to improve public service, strengthen border security, and ensure safe and efficient travel for all passengers.
