The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reportedly denied entry to 124 aliens at various ports last year for being rude and disrespectful to immigration officers.
BI Commissioner Joel Viado stated that the individuals were returned to their port of origin, blacklisted, and prohibited from reentering the country for being categorized as undesirable aliens.
"We again warn foreigners intending to visit the Philippines that they should refrain from being disrespectful when dealing with our officers as such behavior is an affront to persons in authority," said Viado.
He further noted that verbally or physically assaulting immigration officers will not be tolerated, as such acts will result in appropriate sanctions.
It was reported that some passengers were intoxicated and disruptive, while others were openly disrespectful, using expletives and making derogatory remarks against Filipinos and the government.
Citing an example, Viado mentioned a New Zealander who, during primary inspection, was found to have neglected to complete the eTravel form. He was asked to step aside and fill out the form to avoid blocking the queue.
However, he refused to complete the required form and directed offensive remarks at the immigration officer, claiming that the Commissioner would surely permit his entry.
Viado reiterated that foreign visitors are expected to respect the country's laws and policies, emphasizing that disrespect towards officers and refusal to follow entry procedures will not be tolerated.
He further reported that the number of rude passengers turned back in 2024 was slightly higher than the 64 foreigners denied entry in 2023.
The BI enforces strict border security measures and expects all travelers to comply with the country’s entry requirements.
