“We're happy to report na as of today, simula December 24, zero fire incidents related to firecrackers. We hope it goes that way pa rin hanggang pagpasok ng January 1, 2024,” she said in an interview during DZRH Dos Por Dos.

Atienza, however, noted that there was a 20.7 percent increase in injuries related to firecrackers and explosions this year as compared to the record in 2022. She said the fire bureau recorded 29 cases from January to December this year.
She strongly urged the public to refrain from using firecrackers during the New Year’s Eve celebration.
“Sana isipin na mas safe kung hindi na magpapautok. Mas matataboy ang malas sa ganoon,” the BFP spokesperson said.
As of Dec. 28, the health department recorded 13 new cases of fireworks-related injuries, bringing the total number to 88.
Atienza said the bureau has been on red alert since Dec. 23, with more than 34,000 personnel on standby nationwide.
The red alert status would be in effect until January 1, she noted.
“Ang ating patuloy na paalala, mas maging maingat ngayon dahil ang ating hangarin ay swertehin, hindi malasin dahil sa kapabayaan natin,” the BFP spokesperson furthered.
