Presidential and vice-presidential frontrunners Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte-Carpio have secured endorsements from Tarlac Governor Susan Yap and Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio 'Dong' Gonzales.
During a campaign rally on Saturday, Yap confirmed to reporters that she is backing the bid of the UniTeam tandem.
"Of course, 'di ba three of our NPC (Nationalist People's Coalition) members are with the UniTeam?" she said, referring to UniTeam Alliance's senatorial bets Herbert Bautista, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Loren Legarda.
However, Yap clarified that her endorsement is a personal decision and not that of the NPC, which has not yet endorsed a presidential bet.
In a statement on Monday, Gonzales said that aside from him, mayors and some local officials "decided to heed and share UniTeam candidates’ call for unity, hope and patriotism."
"If they get elected, they will have the unparalleled opportunity to unite the country behind the challenges it will continue to face, like the COVID-19 pandemic and soaring fuel and consumer prices," he noted.
“We also believe Bongbong Marcos and Mayor Inday Sara are in the best position to continue the programs and advocacies of President Duterte such as the Build, Build, Build push for infrastructure development,” he added.
Gonzales, together with local and barangay officials in his district, are set to meet with Marcos and Duterte in Barangay Anao, Mexico, Pampanga on Monday afternoon.
