The tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a super typhoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Tuesday.

In its weather forecast issued at 4:00 PM, the Super Typhoon named Mawar is last seen 2.285 kilometers East of Visayas.

It has maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 230 km/h while it is heading northward at 15 km/h.

In a video statement, PAGASA weather forecaster Rhea Torres said the Super Typhoon will have no direct effect in several areas in the country at the moment.

She said the super typhoon will possibly enter PAR on Friday or Saturday.

“Mababa ang tyansa na mag-land fall ito sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa. Ngunit patuloy tayo mag-abang ng updates tungkol dito,” Torres noted.

According to the PAGASA weather forecaster, some areas in Luzon, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Island will experience moderate rains due to the frontal system.

Meanwhile, Kalayaan Island and the rest of Puerto Princesa will also have scattered rain showers caused by the localized thunderstorms.

The localized thunderstorm will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
