As the year comes to an end, Baguio City takes pride as it reaped awards and recognition for the past 12 months despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong is committed to the continuous accomplishments the city has been getting throughout the year as he anticipated global recognition for the city in 2023.
According to Magalong, he is confident for a year of reckoning in the year 2023 and they will keep on doing what they have started and will add those accomplishments in making Baguio a city that is worth the recognition.
As the city government received its International Organization for Standardization (ISO), certification after Christmas day, Magalong accepted it with great happiness.
Baguio City received ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management (QMS) Certification after the external audit of TUV Nord Philippines, an accredited third-party auditing firm.
The ISO certification serves as a mark of endorsement or recognition of the management, support, and operational procedures as well as an effective rise in the caliber of the recipient's services.
According to Magalong, the city was able to obtain the certification due to its "excellent practices, top management's commitment to implementing the QMS, and the numerous honors, recognitions, and citations that the city has achieved."
Additionally, he mentioned Baguio's performance in the just-finished Batang Pinoy competition, in which the city maintained its lead in the annual sporting event for athletes 15 years of age and younger held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) "Klimalikasan" award, which recognizes a city's resilience to climate change and natural disasters, was also given to the city in November.
The summer capital of the Philippines was also selected in January as the recipient of the ASEAN Clean Tourists City Award for 2022–2024.
When Baguio won the BrEEZE Awards (Brand Excellence, Extraordinary and Zealous Employees), a venue or forum for employees' rewards and recognition, the use of light emitting diode (LED) lights, and the expansion of the Baguio VISITA- an online portal for tourist information and assistance- the city was also praised for its public employees.
