Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. called on all commanders on Sunday to aim for a zero-casualty observance for Holy Week.

In a statement, Azurin stated the importance of the security of airports and seaports, particularly the baggage and belongings of passengers, to avoid untoward incidents.

He reminded travelers to make sure that the drivers are okay, not tired, and that the buses are in good running condition to make the Lenten break one of the safest and most peaceful ones.

Also, the PNP launched its annual "Ligtas SumVac (Summer Vacation) 2023" campaign, deploying 74,114 police officers to make sure of the safety and security of the public during the Holy Week.

Moreover, Assistance Hubs and Police Assistance Desks with a total of 38,387 officers will be assigned through mobile and foot/beat patrol that will assist the public and address specific complaints.

Additional 39,504 officers will also be deployed on specific areas of convergence, such as major thoroughfares, transportation hubs, terminals, commercial areas, and places of worship.

In addition, the PNP chief urged the public to cooperate with authorities and adhere to safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, director of the Police Regional Office-Mimaropa, has directed all chiefs of police and unit commanders in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan to increase visibility in tourist areas and other points of convergence in preparation for the influx of tourists and returning residents.
