The roaring fires that engulfed Los Angeles have destroyed hundreds of homes, leaving some residents with no shelter or food, as reported by U.S. media outlets since January 7.
Among those who were affected by the massive fire are some celebrities whose houses burnt down. On Monday, Mandy Moore’s brother-in-law, Griffin Goldsmith, revealed in an Instagram post that the former and her family had taken refuge at the house of Hilary Duff.
Goldsmith shared that the Disney alum and husband Matthew Koma, had welcomed Moore’s family and his, into their home. The former shared his devastation with the incident, considering that his wife will be giving birth in a few weeks. Despite the frustrations and overwhelming feeling of loss, Goldsmith expressed the love and generosity of his dear friends.
In a heartfelt social media post, the former revealed that Duff and Koma had also launched a GoFundMe campaign for his family after they lost their home.
“Our dear friends Matthew Koma and Hilary Duff thought it wise to set up a gofundme for us to help with everything moving forward. Not to mention they are currently housing my brother’s family,” he captioned his post.
“They’ve taken care of my entire family from the moment this began. I will never be able to thank them adequately. This is the kindest act any human could do for another. They are the most beautiful, selfless people we’ve ever known,” he added.
As of writing Goldsmith’s GoFundMe had raised a total of $209,283 (P12.23 million). It was organized by Koma, to help them before their baby’s arrival. The GoFundMe’s initial goal was $175,000 but surpassed the amount within the last 24 hours of its set-up.

Mandy and Hilary both began their careers at Disney, with the former appearing in the Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) “Princess Diaries” with Anne Hathaway, and the latter starring in the Disney show “Lizzie Mcguire.”
Goldsmith is part of the American folk rock band Dawes, with Mandy’s husband and fellow bandmate, Taylor Goldsmith.
Other celebrities whose homes were engulfed by the massive fire in Los Angeles include Paris Hilton, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Milo Ventimiglia. Meanwhile, Filipino celebrities Inigo Pascual and Ylona Garcia evacuated from their residences, while social media star Ivana Alawi’s home was also nearly engulfed by the fire.
