A few weeks after clinching the bronze medal at the AVC Challenge Cup, the journey for the Alas Pilipinas Women's volleyball team is far from over.
The Nationals are set to play in front of their hometown crowd at the FIVB Volleyball Women's Challenger Cup, which will be held from July 4 to July 7 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The competition will be fierce, as the Nationals are set to face strong teams, including Challenge Cup champion Vietnam, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and four other nations.
In an exclusive interview with DZRHTV, team captain Jia De Guzman expressed her thoughts on the upcoming tournament:
“The qualifier this coming July, we’re going up against the teams that topped ‘yung parang AVC Challenge Cup nila in their own specific areas. So we’re going up against higher-ranked teams, and most of them are in the Top 40 in the world, so that's a new challenge.”
De Guzman also mentioned another Challenge Cup in August, which will serve as the final tournament before the club season begins.
“And we have another one in August naman, another Challenge Cup and that will be our final tournament before the club season begins.”
The Alas Pilipinas Women are also scheduled to participate in the SEA V.League in both July and August this year.
In a recent announcement, the team confirmed that the lineup that secured the bronze medal in the AVC Challenge Cup will remain intact, with the addition of several key players such as Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Cassie Dongallo, at Jema Galanza.
