A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck off Marihatag, Surigao del Sur, on Thursday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Based on PHIVOLCS's report, the earthquake which is of tectonic origin, occurred at 12:45 p.m.
It has a depth of 6 kilometers.
Reported intensities are the following:
- Intensity III - City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR
- Instrumental Intensities
- Intensity II - City of Tandag, SURIGAO DEL SUR
- Intensity I - City of Bislig, SURIGAO DEL SUR; Nabunturan, DAVAO DE ORO; City of Gingoog, MISAMIS ORIENTAL
According to the state seismologist, no damage is expected, but aftershocks are likely.
On Saturday, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake also hit Surigao del Sur province, leaving three people dead.
Around 200,228 individuals, or 57,893 families, were affected.
Currently, Surigao del Sur is in a state of calamity following the destructive earthquake.
