Three individuals died while 48 others were injured following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur and a large portion of Mindanao, based on the National Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) latest situational report released Wednesday, Dec. 6.
According to NDRRMC, one casualty came from Davao Region, while two others came from CARAGA.
Twelve of the 48 injured hail from the Davao Region, and the remaining 36 were from CARAGA.
The agency, however, noted that the casualties would still be up for validation.
Meanwhile, NDRRMC reported that a total of 132,615 families or 528,203 persons were affected.
Of the total number, 28 individuals or 8 families are temporarily staying inside an evacuation center in Northern Mindanao.
Damaged houses, infrastructure
According to NDRRRMC, the earthquake caused damages to a total of 3,887 houses in Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and CARAGA.
It said that 304 of the 3,887 damaged houses were totally destroyed and 3,583 were partially destroyed.
There were 266 infrastructures damaged in Davao Region and CARAGA, costing an estimated P4.81 million.
Two roads remain not passable to motorists in the Davao Region.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, a strong magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 10:37 PM.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a 25-kilometer depth of focus.
The local government of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur have declared a state of calamity "due to the widespread destruction caused by" the strong earthquake.
Suriga del sur Governor Alexander Pimentel has also placed the entire province under state of calamity, according to a resolution dated Dec. 5 but released only on Dec. 6.
