The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is set to adopt a new strategy that unifies internal security and territorial defense operations to counter evolving security threats.

AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. underscored the troops’ vital role in the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Plan during his visit to the Headquarters of the 9th Infantry “Spear” Division on Wednesday, January 29.

He also highlighted the AFP’s mission to execute comprehensive archipelagic defense operations aimed at ensuring national security across all domains.

The 9th Infantry Division plays a crucial role in counterinsurgency operations in Southern Luzon. Brawner’s visit to the unit reaffirmed the AFP’s commitment to maintaining operational successes in the region.

“With the caliber of our commanders here and the drive and urgency our troops are putting into this mission, I am confident that we can finally end local communist armed conflict and shift greater focus to territorial defense operations,” Brawner noted.

Meanwhile, Brawner emphasized the division's crucial role in ensuring the security of the upcoming elections, stressing that 2025 will be a pivotal year for the military's internal security operations.
