The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has confirmed the establishment of a new military command, with plans to launch it within this year.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Padilla stated that the newly established AFP Strategic Defense Command will primarily focus on coordinating joint exercises with allied nations.
In an interview, Padilla explained that the strategic command will also be tasked with integrating the military’s new equipment and capabilities into joint drills.
This move by the AFP aims to ensure a swift response during emergencies, such as natural disasters.
“Ang sinabi ng Chief of Staff about sa creation ng command na ‘to, para magkaroon tayo ng mabilis na reaction time,” Col. Padilla stated.
"In any eventuality, we are not going to get ready, but we are already ready,” she added.
However, the composition of the proposed unit is still under study, including the allocation of funding for its establishment.
AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. initially revealed the target of establishing a Strategic Command during his visit to Basa Air Base over the weekend.
