Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos disclosed that authorities efforts are underway for the possible surrender of Wesley Guo, the alleged brother of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.
“There are people who are handling everything. That’s what I would say for now,” Abalos said during a news forum on Saturday.
Abalos cited the statement by Stephen David, the legal representative of the Guos, which suggested that Wesley intended to surrender to the authorities.
Nonetheless, he chose not to elaborate further, noting that the matter is currently under the oversight of an 'ongoing team.
Abalos mentioned that other pieces of information that may come out in public could preempt efforts to put Wesley under government custody.
Authorities previously reported that Wesley, who is one of the individuals ordered arrested by the Senate, attempted to travel to Hong Kong during the last week of August.
Wesley Guo has been tracked moving through several countries in an effort to evade arrest.
Shiela Guo, who is reported to be the sister of Alice and Wesley Guo, previously admitted to fleeing the country with her siblings via boat rides to Malaysia.
Shiela then stated that she separated from Wesley and Alice in Batam, where she and Cassandra Li Ong were subsequently arrested on August 20.
