Interior Secretary Benjamin 'Benhur' Abalos on Wednesday named four out of the five members who will be included in an advisory group tasked to review the courtesy resignations of the Philippine National Police (PNP) top officials.
In a press briefing, Abalos said the group will be comprised of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, PNP Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr., former Defense chief Gibo Teodoro, and retired General and now Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs (OPAMA) Undersecretary for Police Affairs Isagani Nerez.
"I would like to reiterate that this is just an advisory group. They've got no salary, nothing at all. No allowance, nothing. They are doing this voluntarily. They're just advising," he said.
The fifth member would not be announced for now, Abalos said.
The Interior Secretary said they would still discuss this matter as he stressed that transparency is important.
According to Abalos, the five-man advisory group would assess each of the resignation documents.
"Kung may nakuhang tatanggapin ang resignation, ito ngayon ay ibibigay sa National Police Commission o sa NAPOLCOM. From then on, ang NAPOLCOM naman ang isa-isang ire-review ulit ang tinanggap na resignation," he added.
Earlier, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. confirmed that the call for the resignation of generals and full colonels of the PNP is part of his administration's war on drugs campaign.
Abalos said out of the 955 PNP senior officers, only one has yet to submit his courtesy resignation.
