Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla asserted on Wednesday, July 2, that no special treatment will be extended to former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr., who was returned to detention on Tuesday night after being discharged from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
In a statement, the DILG said Remulla confirmed that the hospital had issued a medical clearance for Teves’ discharge after being confined at PGH for several days following an appendectomy.
Due to the clearance, authorities were prompted to return him to his detention cell at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
The DILG chief emphasized that Teves will not be placed under 'hospital arrest nor receive any 'preferential treatment' while recovering from his surgery under BJMP custody.
He further affirmed that Teves will be treated like all other Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in BJMP custody.
"He further said that the former congressman shall not be afforded any preferential treatment while inside the jail facility, and will be treated in the same manner as any other Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL)," said DILG in a Facebook post.
Teves is currently facing multiple murder charges and remains in detention while awaiting further legal proceedings.
Teves' arraignment and pre-trial for one of his murder cases has been postponed on Monday, June 30, due to his surgery and was moved to July 14.
