President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said the visit Kris Aquino's sons had paid his wife, First Lady Liza Marcos was a "fine gesture" on the part of their family, which had put a more "personal, human interaction" between the Marcoses and Aquinos, who have long been thought to be bitter political rivals.
The President revealed on July 10 that Bimby and Josh Aquino had visited Liza Marcos because she was their aunt.
"The reason na pinuntahan nila si First Lady ay simple lamang. Dahil ang kaniyang auntie ay napang-asawa ang eldest brother ni Cory (Aquino). They're related," Marcos told reporters.
("The reason they visited the First Lady is simple. Her auntie married Cory Aquino's eldest brother.")
Cory's eldest brother Marcos was referring to was Pedro Cojuangco, who was the husband of Rosario "Sari" Cacho, the sister of Liza's mother.
"What the reports did not say is that Liza is their aunt," the President stated.
He said they had gone to Liza for assistance in their travel arrangements and that they were thankful.
"Di naman nakakapagtaka, kilalang-kilala niya ang mga pamangkin niya very well," he said, talking about his wife. "Nagbiyahe, bumalik, then may dalang pasalubong. 'Yun lang naman."
When asked whether the Marcoses and Aquinos were still feuding, Marcos said, "We've always been okay. We just don't agree politically."
Liza Marcos caused a stir online when she posted about Bimby and Josh's visit on Instagram.
"Thank you for taking time off to visit me, Bimby and Josh," the caption reads. "(Love) my pasalubong!"
